Michael is renowned as a teacher of conducting, working with adults and young people at all levels. He is the director of the Olney Conducting Workshops.

His former current and former pupils include not only international professional conductors but many teachers and musicians working with youth, amateur and children's orchestras all over the UK.

Private tuition

Michael gives individual lessons at his home in Olney. These can range from one-off sessions on a specific work or preparing for a particular concert, to a series of sessions developing baton technique and musical approach.

He works with both complete beginners and more experienced students. Many of his pupils have been musicians or music teachers with considerable musical expeirence but little knowledge of conducting.

Private sessions can also prove useful as preparation to attend an Olney Conducting Workshop.

INSET and teacher training

Michael has given sessions for music teachers, including Bedfordshire Music Service, Hertfordshire Music Service and the European String Teachers' Association (ESTA), for whom he will be running sessions in their 2008 Summer School.

Sessions usually involve working with an ensemble created by the particpants. Content and format can be tailored to the needs of the group through advance planning and discussion.
